Lyndon SGB scaffolding apprentice, Trenai Munnings has won a National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) ‘Apprentice of the Year’ runner-up award in the 2022 NASC Awards.
Speaking after the award announcement at the 2022 NASC Ball & Awards, taking place at the Westminster Bridge Park Plaza Hotel, London on Friday 18 November, Trennai said: “It feels amazing. I’m really happy and have really enjoyed the NASC Ball and Awards show. It means a massive amount to me, I’ve never felt so appreciated in a role before like this and it’s great to feel valued and to show how far I’ve come and what I’m capable of.
“I’d like to think I was put up for NASC Apprentice of the Year because I always give 100%, I do what’s asked of me and will always try and improve – not only for myself but for the company.”
Trenai Munnings, 22 from Ipswich, joined Lyndon SGB as an apprentice scaffolder in November 2020 and has worked at various locations across the nationwide hybrid access network, including London, Peterborough, Cambridge and all over the East of England.
“Getting a trainee scaffolding apprenticeship at Lyndon SGB was a great way to break through into the construction industry. This opportunity is key for me to progress within the sector, Lyndon SGB and the global BrandSafway network,” he says.
“After coming out of another job, I wanted a trade which I could progress in and would open opportunities – not only in the UK but globally. It’s been great. I’ve enjoyed it since I first started. I’ve gained great experience, been treated very well and met people all over who I now consider friends.
“I have been learning and progressing in my role within the team while scaffolding. And the locations always change, so I’ve worked all over the country.
“If you’re going to do a scaffolding apprenticeship, then put the time and effort in to learn and it will all just fall in to place. At first it seems impossible and then it all becomes clear, if you want a trade and a career that can take you all over the world then go for it.
“Working for Lyndon SGB is brilliant. It’s been a great experience so far and I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve had great support from the Ipswich branch and I thank everyone who’s helped me so far.
“I would like to get all of my tickets (CISRS training cards), then once I have gained enough experience I would love to progress into an office role – either for Lyndon SGB or BrandSafway themselves, within either scaffolding or another sector. I would also consider travelling and working internationally and really pushing my career.”
